Dr.Vimukthi Jayawardene holds a PhD in Data Quality Management from The University of Queensland, Australia. His doctoral research specialised in modelling data quality requirements using goal-oriented requirements engineering methodologies, contributing to the advancement of structured, process-embedded data governance frameworks.
His research spans data quality engineering, decision-support systems, disaster management information systems, and Generative AI augmentation of research methodologies. His published work, “The Role of Data and Information Quality During Disaster Response Decision-Making,” examines how data accuracy, timeliness, completeness, and contextual relevance influence high-stakes operational decisions in emergency and disaster response environments. This work contributes to the design of resilient information systems that support evidence-based decision-making under uncertainty and time pressure.
His current research portfolio centres on Generative AI augmentation for qualitative data analysis, with a particular focus on enhancing rigour, reflexivity, analytical transparency, and cognitive augmentation through structured human–AI collaboration. He has developed a novel methodological framework titled GAATA (Generative AI Augmented Thematic Analysis), which systematically integrates large language models into reflexive thematic analysis while preserving epistemological integrity and methodological validity. His work positions him at the intersection of artificial intelligence, qualitative methodology innovation, human–AI cognition, and AI-assisted knowledge construction, contributing to emerging scholarship on hybrid analytical systems and responsible AI use in research.
Vimukthi brings over ten years of industry experience in enterprise resource planning systems (ERP), with specialised expertise in SAP technical consulting.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Science from The University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, and a Master’s degree (MBA in IT) from The University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. Currently, he lectures in Southern Cross University in Australia.
