Dr. Sampath Edirisinghe received his B.Sc. in Engineering from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, and his Ph.D. from The University of Melbourne, Australia. He is currently a Research Fellow in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at The University of Melbourne, where he works across photonics, optical wireless communication systems, and next-generation network simulation frameworks.
His research spans the design and modelling of photonic computing architectures, high-speed optical wireless links, and hybrid communication systems that integrate photonics with advanced networking technologies. He has contributed to the development of simulation tools, embedded systems, and hardware prototypes that enable reliable, energy-efficient, and scalable communication infrastructures. Dr. Edirisinghe has authored numerous journal and conference publications and has supervised doctoral, master’s, and undergraduate research projects.
